The formation and competence of courts are determined by the Law on Courts of the Republic of Lithuania (31.05.1994)
The sole judicial system of the Republic of Lithuania consists of courts of common competence and specialized courts.
The courts of common competence mean The Supreme Court of the Republic of Lithuania, Court of Appeal of the Republic of Lithuania, and Circuit and District Courts, examining the civil and criminal cases.
The specialized courts mean The Superior Administrative Court of the Republic of Lithuania and Circuit Administrative Courts, examining the cases on disputes, arising from the administrative-legal relationships.
In order to examine the cases on labor and family relationships, as well as the cases on bankruptcy, and the cases of other categories, other specialized courts may be established.
Courts with special powers may not be established in the Republic of Lithuania in times of peace. |
